Imani English - 2013 Recipient

In 2014, Imani graduated from the Chicago High School for the Arts and was Valedictorian! Upon graduation, she accepted an offer to dance with a renowned dance company, Danceworks Chicago in which she spent two seasons. Throughout that time, Imani worked with acclaimed choreographers such as Harrison McEldowney, Christian Shpuck, and Princess Grace award winners James Greg and Joshua Manculich. She also had the opportunity to travel overseas tour in Germany during both seasons.  Throughout her time as a professional in Chicago, Imani shared her passion for dance as a dance instructor, on faculty at the Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center, Steps Dance Center in Aurora, and for prestigious summer intensives such as the River North Chicago summer workshops and the Made in Chicago intensive at hosted inside Chicago's Auditorium theater.

In August of 2016, Imani moved to Dallas TX, to dance with the Dallas Black Dance Theater's DBDT: Encore! Imani has just completed her season with this company which concluded with an international tour in Iquique, Chile! Imani also continued mentoring as a dance instructor for the outreach program at the Dallas Black Academy where I travel to neighborhood schools in the Dallas area and share my love for the arts with children of the inner city.
