Aidan Forster's Best Work
Aidan Forster, a high school sophomore who studies creative writing at the Fine Arts Center in Greenville, South Carolina, used his 2015 AQF Scholarship to attend the Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities.
I came back from the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in late July. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my entire life. I learned so much about poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, got to work with amazing writers, and connect with other artists on a much deeper level than ever before. I lived and worked in an environment that nurtured creativity, and I made some of my best work. Since then,
I have been hired as the blog editor for The Adroit Journal, as well as participating in their summer mentorship program in poetry, and have had an amazing experience with them as well. I met so many talented writers through the mentorship and have been exposed to many opportunities I otherwise would not have encountered.
My work has been published/will be published in Verse, Polyphony H.S., The Best Teen Writing of 2015, The Adroit Journal, Assaracus, Alexandria Quarterly, Souvenir Lit Journal, and the HIV Here and Now website, and appears in the 2015 ART.WRITE.NOW.DC exhibition. I also participate in a local open mic, Say What, and am the 2015 Say What Open Mic Fresh Out the Oven Slam winner.
I study creative writing at the Fine Arts Center in Greenville, South Carolina, where I am the managing editor and assistant poetry editor for Crashtest. The Fine Arts Center is such a wonderful and creative environment that really nurtures its students' talents and helps them grow, and I'm loving it more than ever this year. I am so thankful to the Anthony Quinn Foundation for all they've done for me and the opportunities they've provided for me, and for all that they do for other young artists.
