Angela Watson Joins the San Francisco Ballet

Congratulations to Angela for her debut with the San Francisco Ballet Company Trainee Program and her upcoming role in the San Francisco Nutcracker Ballet!

“I am now a San Francisco Ballet Company Trainee and I experienced my public debut on October 15, 2021 as one of the 12 internationally hand-picked members of the Trainee Program in a performance hosted by the Ballet Sun Valley Festival in Idaho. The performance was sold out and we received standing ovations for each of the pieces we presented. I performed in 4 of the 5 pieces and two were world premieres. It was a very exciting opportunity. I am now rehearsing with the company to perform in the upcoming 2022 Season and am excited about being a part of the Don Quixote and Swan Lake Ballets.”

“I was selected by the Director of San Francisco Ballet School to participate in the annual choreographic program. As a participant, I am required to choreograph a piece that is no more than 10 minutes. I am in the process of that and have already chosen the music and cast the dancers. We have begun to rehearse the piece which is a three-part program. The music is from a motion picture soundtrack composed by Christopher Willis (The Personal History of David Copperfield Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). So far I have recorded the rehearsals of Act I & Act II of the three act program and these can be submitted with my application.”

“In a few weeks we will begin to rehearse the San Francisco Nutcracker Ballet which opens on my birthday, December 10th! I will be dancing the roles of Waltz of the Flower and Dancing Snowflake. This weekend I will be celebrating my grandma's 100th birthday and she was a great appreciator of the art of Anthony Quinn and an avid supporter of the arts, having sat on many arts commissions and boards in her lifetime. I hope that she will be here to see me perform in the coming season. She has always been a great supporter of mine and very much enjoyed watching me dance the role of Clara in the S.F. Nutcracker Ballet. She still enjoys the arts but is challenged with Alzheimer's. She definitely becomes very aware when I dance or my brother sings so we are hopeful.”
