Alexander Peifer

2013 Visual Arts Scholarship Recipient

Alex is driven by the desire to expose visual perceptions of the world that often go unnoticed by others. He constantly evolves his artistic process, pushing the boundaries of technique and concept in his work. Through disciplined practice, Alex aims to develop his artistic skills and relate them to contemporary art while staying true to his initial motivations of creating aesthetically pleasing and well-composed pieces. His fascination with materials extends to his interest in fashion garments and the role of textiles in fine arts. Alex is grateful for the opportunity to study visual art with scholarship support at the Chicago Academy for the Arts and gain insights into art and fashion business through his internship at the Chicago boutique Ikram.

The Pre-College program at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) captivates Alex with its diverse range of majors representing various art and design disciplines. He is inspired by the idea of a creative community and the profound influence of RISD graduates, who serve as daily motivation for him. Recognizing RISD's reputation for prestigious faculty and extensive research resources, Alex sees attending the Pre-College course as an opportunity to explore and excel in the areas he finds crucial to his artistic composition. He hopes to challenge himself as a young adult in an unfamiliar college-level environment, nurturing his independence and self-sufficiency. By working alongside practicing artists and academic specialists, Alex aims to gain further insight into specific areas of art, refine his fundamental skills, and explore new techniques that will enhance his ability to translate ideas into representative materials.
