Anna Sherman

2012 Visual Arts Scholarship Recipient

Anna's love for art has been a part of her life since she was a little girl. She finds joy in the process of creating and capturing the world around her on canvas or paper. While she has taken art classes at her school, she feels there is still more to learn and explore in the art world. Attending classes at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) would provide her with the opportunity to be taught by experienced teachers and learn beyond what high school can offer. It would also allow her to view art from a different perspective and experience something she wouldn't be able to under normal circumstances.

Watercolor painting has been Anna's chosen medium since childhood, and it has become a means for her to express her emotions and communicate in a different way. This realization led her to choose a career path as an art therapist. In the next ten years, she envisions herself working as an art therapist after completing extensive training in various art fields, including community education. Anna's passion for helping people is as strong as her love for art, and she hopes to show others the calming and therapeutic effects that art can have. Overcoming her own anxieties through art has inspired her to make a positive impact on the world by helping others achieve the same sense of inner peace.
