Gregory LaRosa

2012 Instrumental Scholarship Recipient

Greg's artistic passion lies in educating and inspiring the public through the power of music. He demonstrates this passion by actively performing in various ensembles, encompassing a wide range of genres. Currently, Greg serves as a classical percussionist in both the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and The Tim Janis Youth Orchestra, showcasing his talents in esteemed venues like Carnegie Hall, The Kimmel Center, and The Temple Performing Arts Center. As the principal percussionist in the Chester County Youth Orchestra, Greg takes the initiative to organize sectionals and lessons with his fellow percussionists, fostering their musical growth and aiming to stimulate the community through their performances. Through these experiences, Greg has not only discovered his love for educating through performance but has also developed an interest in inspiring others through teaching.

Looking ahead, Greg envisions himself graduating from a distinguished conservatory in ten years, with a bachelor's degree in percussion performance and a master's degree in music education. His ultimate goal is to dedicate his life to his artistic passion in multiple ways. Greg plans to continue performing as a classical percussionist with a renowned symphony orchestra, such as the New York Philharmonic, allowing him to further his impact on the music scene.

Equally important to him is his aspiration to create a free program that inspires and educates young, underprivileged individuals about the benefits of all creative expressions, not just music. This comprehensive program would encompass various art forms, including writing, painting, sculpting, acting, film, photography, dance, and, of course, music. The primary objective of this school would be to introduce, nurture, and develop an appreciation for the fine arts, recognizing the vital role of self-expression in fostering intellectual growth.
