Lewis Greenstein

2015 Visual Arts Scholarship Recipient

Lewis had dedicated most of his life to academics and science, finding satisfaction in understanding concepts. However, a few years ago, he discovered a new sense of accomplishment through sculpture and stencils. Improving his skills and completing artistic projects brought him a different kind of fulfillment.

Lewis now aims to merge his passion for art with his scientific background, seeking a healthier balance between the two. His experiences in science class, particularly learning about molecular bonding and crystalline structures, made him view his welded metal sculptures in a new light. He realized that casting the sculptures in their final shape would allow for a more harmonious alignment of the metal's structure. This revelation led Lewis to believe that combining his separate passions and aligning them, both in art and science, would create a more natural and fulfilling path for him.

Lewis envisions a world where the balance between academics and art is more equitable. He recognizes the value of both fields and understands that society needs the contributions of both scientists and artists. To achieve this balance in his own life, Lewis intends to continue learning about art and science, with the goal of aligning his passions. He sees the Pratt Fine Arts Center: Bronze Casting Program as an opportunity to further explore and integrate his interests in art and science.
