Lindsey Sharpe

2015 Instrumental Scholarship Recipient

Lindsey's journey with the cello began when her mother enrolled her in lessons as a means to instill discipline. However, the unexpected happened - she fell in love with the instrument. Ever since, Lindsey has dedicated her life to playing the cello, unable to imagine a world without music. She finds great joy in playing in ensembles, relishing the experience of making music with like-minded individuals. Her dream is to graduate from a top music school and play in a professional orchestra, as it would allow her to fulfill her ultimate goal of bringing people together through her musical gifts. Lindsey envisions performing for large audiences and touring the world, sharing the beauty of music with others.

While Lindsey is aware of the challenging nature of securing a position in a professional orchestra, she sees it as an opportunity to work even harder. For her, music is not just work; it is a passion that drives her. To prepare for auditions and her future career in a professional ensemble, she dedicates herself to extensive practice. Lindsey actively participates in various music ensembles, including the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, Georgia All-State Orchestra, and Duluth High School Chamber Orchestra. These esteemed programs provide intensive orchestra schedules and offer the chance to gain valuable experience and connections in the music world.

By attending Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Lindsey hopes to establish meaningful connections with fellow musicians from around the world who share her passion. She sees her participation in the Tanglewood Institute as an honor that would not only prepare her for her future as a professional musician but also align with her ultimate goal of using music to bring people closer together.
