Rachel Yi

2015 Instrumental Scholarship Recipient

Rachel's passion for music, particularly the violin, has been a driving force in her life. Despite the challenges of relocating multiple times, she remained dedicated to her studies. Rachel's commitment to her craft led her to travel long distances for lessons and even use recordings to practice efficiently. She pursued solo music and played in orchestras, but her interest in chamber music grew as she had the opportunity to play in small ensembles at school. This sparked her desire to become a professional violinist and use music as a means of communication.

Now, as a homeschool student and attendee of the Fine Arts Center of Greenville, SC, Rachel is able to concentrate more on her violin training and pursue her aspirations. She values the opportunity to participate in intensive chamber coaching and AP music theory classes at the Fine Arts Center. Seeking to gain further knowledge and guidance in her musical journey, Rachel aims to attend the Heifetz International Music Institute during the summer.

This program offers intensive chamber music classes and solo performance opportunities, aligning with her goal of a career in music. Additionally, it provides classes that enhance communication skills, such as chorus, public speaking, and plays, which Rachel believes will contribute to her development as a successful violinist. Rachel's application for the scholarship was driven by her unwavering passion for music and her determination to continue growing as a violinist, as she sees the Heifetz International Music Institute as stepping stones towards a musical career.
