Sarina Marone

2017 Instrumental Scholarship Recipient

Sarina, a shy teenage harpist and saxophonist, has found music to be her outlet for self-expression. It has provided her with comfort, joy, and leadership roles, enabling her to come out of her shell. Through playing in orchestras and bands, Sarina has connected with others and mentored them, showcasing her musical skills. She also enjoys composing and improvising, using music as a form of non-verbal communication and a way to convey the perspective of composers. Understanding the individual roles within an orchestral score is crucial to achieving musical balance in group settings.

For Sarina, music has become a second language that brings her daily routine to life. However, school has been a challenge due to her Central Auditory Processing disorder, which affects her ability to process phonemic sounds. Despite this, music has provided her with the balance she needs and boosted her self-esteem. She particularly enjoys taking on challenging musical works. Her talent as a harpist has led her to perform with prestigious ensembles such as the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, Temple University's Harp Ensemble, and Rowan University's Youth Orchestra.

Sarina's dream is to pursue a career in orchestral music and attend summer studies at Eastern Music Camp at Colgate University. This program would offer her a unique opportunity to study individual works, ensemble pieces, and orchestra pieces. The intense summer event would prepare her for college auditions and provide her with the chance to collaborate with talented teenagers from around the world. Sarina firmly believes that strong musicianship can only be achieved through rigorous study, and receiving support from the Anthony Quinn Foundation would help her nurture her musical talent and continue her artistic journey.
