Caldwell Butler

2013 Media Arts Scholarship Recipient

Caldwell, driven by his passion for filmmaking, made the decision three years ago to pursue a career in the industry. He finds joy in every step of the filmmaking process, from writing scripts to working with actors, capturing footage, and handling post-production. Caldwell's creativity constantly flows, and he actively collaborates with others to develop new ideas for films, scripts, and books. The prospect of turning his ideas into films and making a living from it fills him with excitement, whether it be working with production companies or producing independent films.

Recognizing the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) as an exceptional opportunity to expand his knowledge and skills, Caldwell sets his sights on attending their five-week summer filmmaking camp. He envisions the camp as a transformative experience where he can immerse himself in all aspects of filmmaking and gain a deeper understanding of scriptwriting. UNCSA's impressive resources and knowledgeable staff promise to provide invaluable guidance on his path toward a filmmaking career. The camp would grant Caldwell access to professional equipment, lighting, editing techniques, and software, which he currently lacks. By the end of the camp, he hopes to emerge with a professionally-made film based on his own script, as well as a network of like-minded friends for potential future collaborations.

Attending the UNCSA summer filmmaking camp marks a significant milestone in Caldwell's journey as a filmmaker. While he already possesses some knowledge in the field, he recognizes the camp as an opportunity to gain vital insights that will propel him forward. With a strong desire to attend film school, the camp would provide a glimpse into what he can expect at UNCSA, his top college choice. Caldwell is eager to make the most of his time at the camp, knowing that the knowledge and experience he will acquire there will be invaluable in shaping his future career.
