Rose Bud Doetsch

2013 Visual Arts Scholarship Recipient

Rose has developed a deep passion for painting, and she is eager to immerse herself fully in the study of this art form. She sees painting as a complex and challenging endeavor that requires endless practice and continuous learning. Her artwork primarily focuses on portraits of women, including self-portraits, through which she aims to convey their psychological states and underlying emotions. Rose finds self-exploration in the process of creating self-portraits and appreciates how her initial representation can transform into a distinct persona of its own.

Recognizing the boundless knowledge that can be found in the creation of art, Rose believes that the Pre-College Art Lab at the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) will complement her serious dedication to artistic study. After thorough research and multiple portfolio reviews, she specifically chose KCAI for its renowned painting program and the close-knit community it offers. Attending the KCAI Pre-College program would provide Rose with a rigorous art schedule that matches her commitment at the Chicago Academy for the Arts. Moreover, it would give her a valuable insight into the daily life of a KCAI student and the opportunity to learn from the faculty who would potentially become her college teachers.

Rose's primary goal is to deepen her artistic knowledge and establish a connection with KCAI. Her genuine love for learning and her desire to absorb as much knowledge as possible fuel her ambition for an intense educational experience at the Pre-College ArtLab. By attending the program, Rose aims to gain further insight into the art-making process and establish a relationship with the school that she plans to attend upon graduation.
