Greer Hutchison

2014 Dance Scholarship Recipient

Greer, a student at Chicago High School for the Arts, has discovered a newfound appreciation for ballet since attending the school. She finds beauty and sophistication in the structure and demands of ballet, a love she hadn't fully realized until she began dancing it herself. However, Greer's heart lies with contemporary dance, where she feels a deep connection and a sense of freedom and creativity that she treasures. Contemporary dance has always held a special place in her heart, an indescribable connection she could never let go of or replace.

Expressing her love for dance through words proves to be challenging for Greer. She believes that the true expression of her passion comes to life when she is on the dance floor. In those moments, words become insignificant as she channels the energy that runs through her body, exiting through her limbs. The adrenaline and life she feels through dance surpass any other form of communication. Dance becomes a powerful outlet that allows her to showcase her passion. Even on difficult days when her body doesn't feel ideal or moves as she desires, Greer finds solace in her passion for dance. It pulls her through challenges, tears, sweat, and self-judgment, serving as something to live for.

Since the age of three, dance has been an integral part of Greer's life. With each passing year, her passion and love for the art form have grown stronger. In her pursuit of personal growth, Greer actively seeks opportunities to enhance her skills as both a technician and an artist. This summer, she hopes to learn from new teachers, explore her body's capabilities, and further develop her artistic abilities.
