Sophia Drapeau

2016 Musical Theatre Scholarship Recipient

Sophia discovered her love for theatre after watching her first play at the age of four. Her desire to be a part of the singing, dancing, and storytelling for the audience grew, leading her to participate in her first play at the age of six. Since then, theatre has become her utmost devotion, captivating her above all other interests. Sophia dreams of making her mark on Broadway, television, and movies, but it is theatre that holds the strongest allure for her. Through her involvement in theatre, she has witnessed its transformative power on her loved ones, especially her siblings, and she considers it a privilege to introduce them to the magic of the arts.

Sophia's passion for theatre encompasses all its aspects, from performing Shakespearean plays for their timelessness and poetic appeal to bringing joy and imagination to young audiences through theatre for children. She cherishes the depth that music and dance add to storytelling in musicals and appreciates the rawness and vulnerability of straight plays. Whether playing an over-the-top comedic role or delving into the emotional challenges of a dramatic character, Sophia finds fulfillment in every aspect of theatre, including ensemble work and collaborating with fellow actors to create a cohesive narrative.

Sophia sees college as the next crucial step in pursuing her creative aspirations and views Northwestern University as a potential perfect fit. She believes that the National High School Institute's five-week Theatre Intensive at Northwestern University would provide her with the opportunity to learn from professional instructors, connect with other passionate actors, and assist in her college decision-making process.
