Angela Watson

2019 Dance Scholarship Recipient

Angela's journey in ballet began at the age of 11 when she was admitted to the Oakland School for the Arts. Her passion for ballet was ignited when she watched Maria Kochetkova's performance as Giselle for the San Francisco Ballet, inspiring her in a way that nothing else could. Determined to become a successful ballet professional, Angela is committed to working hard and being her very best. Her goal in attending Summer Intensives is to gain valuable experience, broaden her technical exposure, and enhance her technique to become the best ballerina she can be.

At the age of 12, Angela auditioned for top ballet programs in the United States and received seven offers, some with artistic merit scholarships. She attended the San Francisco Ballet School's Summer Intensive on a full artistic merit scholarship and was invited to join their year-round program. Angela even had the honor of being cast as the leading role character "Clara" in the 2016 Nutcracker, marking her as a trailblazer in the company's history. She continued to grow and excel in her training, attending various Summer Intensive Programs and earning recognition and scholarships from prestigious institutions such as the Joffrey Ballet School, Bolshoi Ballet Academy NYC, and American Ballet Theatre.

Angela recognizes the incredible training program offered by the San Francisco Ballet and is grateful for her progress. She believes that Bolshoi Ballet Academy Summer Intensive will provide the opportunity to develop specific disciplines and incorporate international techniques into her own style. She aims to gain intelligent and mature ways of improving movement quality and bring home the experience of training internationally.
